These Terms of Use apply to learn.pline.studio and every study guide under it, including OBC Study. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information.
1. About these Terms
pline.studio Learn is operated by pline.studio (“we”, “us”). By using the site, creating an account or buying content, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
2. Not affiliated with government
pline.studio Learn is independently operated. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or approved by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing, the Government of Ontario or the National Research Council of Canada. The BCIN examinations are administered by the Ministry, and nothing on this site is an official examination or official study material.
3. Original questions only
All practice questions, quizzes and flashcards are written by us from the Building Code Act, 1992 and the Building Code. They are not actual BCIN examination questions and are not based on recalled examination content. Please don’t submit, post or send us questions from an actual examination.
4. Accounts
You can sign in with your Google account or with an email address and password. Please give a real email address that you can access. You are responsible for keeping your password and your Google account secure and for activity on your pline.studio Learn account. Each account is for one person: don’t share your login or let others use content you bought. You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live, to buy content.
5. Free and paid content
Much of the site is free. We plan to sell some content item by item, such as practice exams, topic quizzes and flashcard packs. Paid items are not offered yet. When they are, there will be no subscription and no automatic renewal; each purchase gives you access to that item for the period stated at checkout, and prices will be shown in Canadian dollars with applicable taxes. Price changes never affect items you have already bought.
6. Code editions and updates
Content is written for the Building Code Act, 1992 and the Building Code in force when it is published, currently the 2024 Building Code (O. Reg. 163/24). Each lesson states the version it quotes. When the Code or Act is amended, we aim to update affected content within a reasonable time, but we don’t promise every item reflects every amendment immediately. Always check the current official text.
7. Licence to use the content
We give you a personal, non-transferable, non-exclusive licence to use the content for your own study. You may not:
- copy, download in bulk, scrape or record the content;
- share, resell, publish or distribute it, including in study groups, courses or forums;
- use it to create a competing product or to train software or AI systems;
- try to get around paywalls, access controls or security.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules.
8. Our content and third-party material
The questions, explanations, flashcards, design and software on this site belong to us. Provisions of the Building Code Act, 1992 and the Building Code are quoted word for word for study; that text is © King’s Printer for Ontario and may include material copyrighted by the National Research Council of Canada. Standards referenced in the Code (such as CSA or ULC standards) belong to their publishers and are not reproduced here.
9. Educational use only
The content is for exam preparation and general education. It is not legal, engineering, architectural or design advice, and it is not a substitute for the official Building Code Act, 1992, the Building Code, the Minister’s binding interpretations, or the judgment of a qualified professional or chief building official. Don’t rely on it for design, permit or construction work.
10. No guarantee of results
Our materials are study aids. Using them doesn’t guarantee that you will pass any BCIN examination, obtain registration or achieve any particular score, and scores on our practice exams don’t predict your result on an actual examination.
11. Accuracy
We work to keep the content accurate, but errors, omissions or outdated references may occur. If you find one, please tell us at hello@pline.studio and we’ll review it.
12. Payments and refunds
When paid items are offered, payments will be handled by a third-party payment processor, and we will never store your full card number. A refund policy will be published here before any item is sold. Nothing in it will limit your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 (Ontario).
13. Warranties
To the extent permitted by law, the site and content are provided “as is” and “as available”. We don’t promise the site will be uninterrupted or error-free. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 (Ontario) or other laws that cannot be waived.
14. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost income, lost opportunity, or costs arising from reliance on the content for design, permit or construction work. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for the item the claim relates to, or nothing if you paid nothing.
15. Suspension and closing accounts
You may close your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We’ll post the new version here with its effective date and notify account holders by email of material changes. Changes don’t apply to purchases made before they take effect.
17. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
